What is the Bariatric Foodie Pledge?

The Bariatric Foodie Pledge is a four-week goal setting and accountability challenge. Each week works the same way:

  1. At the beginning of each week, you’ll pledge a goal here on the Bariatric Foodie website. It can be any goal of your choosing!
  2. All week long, you work hard on your goal. If you choose to join the Bariatric Foodie Pledge private Facebook group, you’ll find lots of support and encouragement there.
  3. At the end of each week, you’ll be accountable by submitting a check-in  to say how your goal went, here on the Bariatric Foodie website.
  4. For each week you do that, you’ll be entered into a weekly drawing to win prizes from some of Bariatric Foodie’s favorite companies! Each week of the challenge there will be five prize winners.

You may participate in as many or few weeks as you want (you are not disqualified for skipping a week) but there is a great incentive to participate all four weeks: The Bariatric Foodie Pledge Grand Prize!

Only to those who complete all four weeks of the challenge are eligible to compete for the Bariatric Foodie Pledge Grand Prize, which is “Winner Takes All.” That means that the person who wins this prize will win one of everything given away during the previous four weeks (plus a few extra goodies). By the way…don’t get too hung up on the word “compete.” Throughout this challenge you are only ever competing with yourself!

There is no cost to participate in the Bariatric Foodie Pledge. This challenge is sponsored by the great companies giving away the prizes. But remember: YOU MUST REGISTER TO PARTICIPATE! You can do that by hitting the button at the top of this page and following the directions from there.

Read on to learn more specifics about how the challenge works.

The Bariatric Foodie Pledge Dashboard

When you register t take part in this challenge, you’ll be asked to choose a username and password for the challenge. That’s because you’ll have to log in to a special section the Bariatric Foodie website to participate in this challenge.

After you register to participate in the challenge, you’ll get access to what’s called “The Bariatric Foodie Pledge Dashboard.” This is where you will submit your pledges and check-ins all four weeks. The Bariatric Foodie Pledge Dashboard is personalized to you. Only you and Bariatric Foodie can see the pledges and check-ins you submit there. It is also where you can keep track of your progress throughout the challenge.

IMPORTANT: You’ll have to log in each time you need to come to the Bariatric Foodie Pledge Dashboard, so be sure to pick a username and password you can remember or save it somewhere!

Read on to learn more specifics about what you do on the Bariatric Foodie Pledge Dashboard.

Pledging

Each week of the challenge starts on a Sunday, with pledging. Pledging simply means you are coming to the Bariatric Foodie website to submit your goal for the week. Remember, your goal is totally up to you. You may make any goal you like!

The important thing to know is that there is a limited amount of time each week to submit your pledge. Pledging is open each week from noon EST Sunday – noon EST Monday. Pledging takes just a few minutes, but it can only be done during that period of time. No late submissions will be accepted!

Once you submit your pledge, you’ll see that it’s submitted it on your Bariatric Foodie Pledge Dashboard. (You’ll get more details about that on the actual dashboard.)

Checking-in

Each week of the challenge ends on a Saturday with check-ins. Check-ins are simply when you come to the website to answer a few questions about how your goal went for the week. Whether you achieved your goal or not, you should submit a check-in to stay eligible for the weekly prize drawing.

The important thing to know is that there is a limited amount of time each week for you to submit your check-in. Check-ins are open each week of the challenge from 12 p.m. EST on Saturday to 12 p.m. EST Sunday. Check-ins take just a few minutes – but can only be done during that window of time!

Once you submit your check-in, you’ll see that it’s been submitted on your Bariatric Foodie Pledge Dashboard. (You’ll get more details about that on the actual dashboard.)

The weekly prize drawings

To be eligible for the weekly prize drawing you must submit both a pledge and a check-in on time! Everyone who does during a challenge week  will automatically be placed into that weeks prize drawing. However, if you miss either submitting your pledge or submitting your check-in, you will not be eligible for that week’s prize drawing. However, you may participate in the next week and try again!

The prize drawings take place on Mondays, and winners will be announced on Monday evenings here on the website, by email and on social media. If you win a prize, you’ll get an email directly from Nik with the subject line, “Congratulations! You won a Bariatric Foodie Pledge Prize!” If you see that email respond to it right away! There is a deadline to claim your prize before another winner is drawn.

Although you can only win one weekly prize during the challenge, you can win the “Winner Takes All” Grand Prize even if you already won a weekly prize – so keep on going, even if you win!

The Winner Takes All Grand Prize

The Bariatric Foodie Pledge Grand Prize competition is open to people who participated in all four weeks of the Bariatric Foodie Pledge. That means you have to pledge a goal at the beginning of each week and check-in at the end of each week – for all four weeks of the Pledge. The Grand Prize is “Winner Takes All.” That means if you win the grand prize you will receive one of every prize awarded during the entire Bariatric Foodie Pledge, plus a few extra goodies. Details on the grand prize competition will be given once the challenge begins.

Communications during the Bariatric Foodie Pledge

By signing up for the Pledge, you are also signing up for the Bariatric Foodie email list. This is mainly so that you can receive challenge reminders. You can unsubscribe at any time, but remember that the deadlines for pledging and checking in remain the same, so if you opt-out of reminders and forget, you may not submit a pledge or a check-in late!

By signing up you also agree to receive communications from our sponsors. This is mainly for the purposes of sharing special, Pledge-related discounts and offers with you AND if you win a prize, the sponsoring company will ship your prize directly so they will contact you with shipping information. You can unsubscribe from their communications at any time. Unsubscribing will never affect your chances of winning a prize.

Here are the communications you’ll receive from Bariatric Foodie each week during the challenge:

  • Each Sunday, you’ll receive a reminder by email to submit your pledge for the week, with instructions on how to do so.
  • The following Saturday of each week, you’ll receive a reminder by email to submit your check-in, with instructions on how to do so.
  • The following Monday each week, you’ll receive an email notification of the weekly prize winners. If you won a prize, you’ll get an email directly from Nik with the subject line, “Congratulations! You won a prize in the Bariatric Foodie Pledge!” If you get that email, open it immediately and follow the directions! There is a time limit to claim your prize.

While these communications are sent as a courtesy, and to help you advance through the challenge, technology is not foolproof! Even if you do not receive an email reminder, you must submit your pledges and check-ins on time in order to qualify for the prize drawings. No late submissions will be accepted, even if you did not receive a reminder. That’s why I’ve provided all the pledge and check-in dates on the calendar above and I highly encourage you to save it and set reminders for yourself so that you don’t miss a deadline!

In addition to communications via email, all reminders and announcements will be posted in the Bariatric Foodie Pledge private Facebook group. Joining the Facebook group is optional, however, you’ll find tons of support there and it can serve as an additional way to get reminders about the challenge. Once you are registered for the challenge, you’ll receive instructions on how to join the group.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some frequently asked questions about the Bariatric Foodie Pledge. If you have others, don’t hesitate to ask! Email nikki@bariatricfoodie.com with any questions you may have.

When does the Bariatric Foodie Pledge begin again?

The 2020 Bariatric Foodie Pledge begins on Sunday, January 26.

Do I have to sign up to participate?

Yes, you do! If you haven’t already signed up, please visit bariatricfoodie.com/takethepledge and fill out the sign-up form! You MUST sign up in order to participate in the challenge. If you don’t sign up, you won’t be able to access the part of the website where the Pledge happens. So be sure to sign up for the challenge today!

I’m a little confused about how this all works! Help?

The easiest way to think about the Bariatric Foodie Pledge is as four back-to-back contests that each last a week. Each week begins with pledging your goal here on the website (you’ll get a reminder to pledge your goal and a link to where to go to do it) and each week ends with checking in to say how your goal went (you’ll also get reminders and links to do that).

Each week there’s a different prize package that you can win. But in order to be entered to win you must submit a pledge at the beginning of the week AND a check-in at the end of the week. And if you do this for all four weeks, you are eligible to compete for the Winner Takes All Grand Prize.

If that’s still clear as mud, email Nik at nikki@bariatricfoodie.com. I’ll get you sorted out!

Who will be able to see my pledge?

Only Bariatric Foodie sees your exact pledge. We will not share your pledge with anyone else. You may choose to share your pledge with others in the private Facebook group but that’s up to you to do.

To join the Bariatric Foodie Pledge private Facebook group, you must first sign up for the Pledge. Then you’ll get the information to join the group by email.

Do I have to be on Facebook to participate?

No, you don’t! The private Facebook group is simply a bonus for folks who want to connect with other people taking part in the challenge. You will pledge and check-in here on the website and you’ll receive weekly reminders by email, so you will be able to participate even if you are not on Facebook.

How will I know you got my pledge or check-in?

Each time you come to the website to submit a pledge or a check-in you’ll be taken to your own personal “Pledge dashboard.” This is a place for you to track your progress throughout the challenge. Whenever you submit something, you’ll be able to see that we got it on your dashboard.

Can I communicate with others who are participating?

Yes! And the good news is that you’ll get a lot of support from fellow participants. The main way to communicate with fellow “pledgers” is to join the Bariatric Foodie Pledge Private Facebook Group. Once you are signed up for the Pledge, you’ll get information on how to join the group. Be sure to use it as a source of support!

How do I know if I won a prize?

If you won a prize, you’ll get an email with the subject line, “Congratulations! You won a Bariatric Foodie Pledge prize!” The prize winners will also be announced via email. If you win a prize you have 48 hours to claim your prize by email before a new winner is drawn, so be sure to pay attention to your inbox! We’ll also publish a list of the winners here on the Bariatric Foodie website and we will post winner announcements in the private Facebook group.

Do you have to live in the U.S. to win prizes?

No, this contest is open worldwide, however there are some things you should be aware of. If you win a prize, I have to make sure it is legal to ship that physical prize to your country. If it is not legal to do so, I will award you the value of the prize in an Amazon gift card. Please also note that delivery of prizes outside the US will take longer as the sponsor first ships the prize to me, then I ship it onto you.

How much email will I be getting from you during the Bariatric Foodie Pledge?

We respect your email inbox! During the Pledge you’ll receive the following via email:

  1. On Sundays, you’ll get an email reminding you to submit your pledge for the week.
  2. On Mondays, beginning in week 2, you’ll get an email notifying you of the previous week’s prize winners. This email will also have any important announcements you need to know.
  3. On Saturdays, you’ll get an email reminding you to submit your check-in.

Can I make the same goal each week? If so, do I have to keep pledging it?

You are welcome to make the same goal each week if you feel like that’s helpful to you. Even if you intend to work on the same goal each week during the challenge, you must still come to the website each week and submit your pledge. And, of course, at the end of the week you have to submit a check-in!

What if I miss a pledge or check-in deadline?

You must both pledge and check-in to be eligible for the weekly prizes. But even if you miss a deadline, you are encouraged to keep moving forward. If you miss a deadline, work on your goal anyway FOR YOU! Then jump back by pledging a goal for the next week. However, if you miss submitting either a pledge or a check-in, you will not be entered into that week’s prize drawing. Missing a pledge or check-in also disqualifies you from the Bariatric Foodie Grand Prize competition.

Make sure that doesn’t happen to you by downloading the complete 2020 Bariatric Foodie Pledge schedule and setting reminders for yourself to pledge and check-in each week. You’ll thank yourself later!

Can I win more than one weekly drawing?

Look at you, thinking positively!

You can only win one weekly prize during each Pledge. However, even if you win a weekly prize, you can still win the “Winner Takes All” Grand Prize – so keep participating, even if you win a prize!

Can the same person win the Grand Prize back-to-back?

Grand Prize winners are excluded from winning the Grand Prize for one (1) year following their win. But after that, they can win again. It hasn’t happened yet, but you never know!

This sounds kinda hard. Why should I do this?

Everyone’s reasons for participating in the Bariatric Foodie Pledge are different. Many people use this time as an opportunity to work on their goals while many other people are doing the same. Whether you need to get back on track, or are looking to take your current efforts to the next level, the Bariatric Foodie Pledge will provide the motivation, support and accountability you need to achieve your most challenging goals.

But, in short, this isn’t an easy challenge. You have to show up. Every week. Two times a week. You have to work on your goals. And you have to report back whether you achieved your goal or not. None of that is easy, and I (Nik) recognize that. That’s why the Pledge sponsors offer such great prizes as incentives! That’s also why Bariatric Foodie provides additional support, such as a private Facebook group for participants. This is a time for you to focus on you – and hopefully win some great prizes in the process!
