They call this weekend the “unofficial” start of summer.
Damn that. I’m calling it. It’s summer!
I mean after the winter we had? We deserve it. (Unless of course you don’t like summer in which case…sorry…I love it so forgive my obnoxiousness over the next few months.)
Raise your hand if the highlight of your summer day as a kid was hearing the jingle of the ice cream truck? (Raises hand) Oh what a joyous sound that was! The first faint sounds were my signal to beg my mother (in the most annoying voice possible) for a few coins so that I could partake in my all-time favorite summer treat: Orange Creamsicles.
Today, I still eat Orange Creamsicles but – sorry, ice cream man! – I make them myself. Using the basic frozen treat instructions from my book, The Bariatric Foodie Guide to Perfect Protein Shakes, here’s how I make this delicious summer treat!
So let’s not talk about how I got this Nutri-Ninja like a year ago and I am just starting to use it regularly. |
Yeah…being a food blogger is a tough job some days. But somebody’s gotta do it! |
- 11 oz Premier Protein Vanilla Shake ready to drink carton
- 1-2 Orange drink sticks sugar-free
- 1/4 tsp lemon juice
- Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
- Pour in popsicle molds and freeze at least two hours.
- To extract, run mold under cool (not cold, not warm) water until the pop releases.
This is awesome! I'm definitely going to make it since I already have the ingredients on hand. Somehow I missed it in your book. Going to have to read it for more great ideas.
Just made them and they are in the freezer now! I have had a craving for something sweet for the last few days and it has been driving me nuts so this comes at a perfect time! I was even good and walked to the store to get the milk and the orange sticks…..grabbed some Jolly Rancher Watermelon as well to try! And of course I had to taste the "fruit of my labor" and I can't wait for the finished product! (Trying to wait patiently…….(Oh… and… I txtd my SIL and thanked her again for having bought me your book last year for my birthday! LOL) ~ Lisa J., Toledo, OH
I can't wait to try these….let me ask you this. Do you buy the Premier Protein locally or order online? I am obsessed with this flavor combo but the usual sugar sweetened is just to much for me even at 5 yrs out.
I'm definitely going to try this! I love your blog but am a faithful lurker and not a "poster". Thank you for all you do! 😀
Made these this weekend but used EAS Advantage vanilla shake. They turned out great! Than,s for the recipe!

I am currently out of Premier Vanilla RTD Protein, but as soon as I get more I am trying this!!
WOW! I can’t wait to try these! I am diabetic and this would help me sooooo much! Thank you! Anymore cold ideas? THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
I would like to add this recipe to my Bariatric app but I don’t know what the numbers are. Can you provide me with details like serving size, protein, carbs, etc?
Hi Brad! Bariatric Foodie doesn’t provide nutrition info for its recipes. But the good news is it isn’t that hard to figure them out using the exact ingredients you have on hand. Here’s how: https://www.bariatricfoodie.com/bf-basics-how-to-figure-out-recipes/
